The Univention Summit was worth it for me, because the many conversations made one thing very clear:
Open-source products are now enterprise-grade alternatives in every area of IT.
There is now a strong ecosystem of companies that professionally handle migration, integration, operations, support and service – including dependable subscription models.
In functional and technical terms, there are effectively no arguments left against open source.
What remains is the strategic decision: deliberately moving away from proprietary software towards open source takes courage, effort and hard work.
But it pays off – because it is the only way to achieve genuine digital sovereignty.
Another point that is central for me: billions in licence fees no longer flow to Big Tech corporations in the US but stay in Europe, strengthening our own economy and a European digital economy.
Open source is the strategic option.
